Handy Ideas for Houseplants

Having the odd houseplant around turns a house into a home – there is a part in all of us that responds to nature, however small. And it’s healthy too – houseplants can improve the purity of the air in your home!

While not everyone is equally savvy when it comes to growing greenery, we have come up with some tips on how you can incorporate houseplants into your home.

The natural light in most homes are medium to low, so unless you have a sunroom or massive skylights, you need to pick a houseplant that thrives in low to medium light. (Low light is a safer pick.) Luckily this leaves you with many beautiful options in all shapes and sizes.

Plants that prefer low light often also requires less maintenance and also less water, which is good news for those of us (i.e. all of us) who tend to be a bit forgetful when it comes to watering plants regularly and on time. When you decide on a houseplant, try to choose one that can go without watering for a few days just in case.

If you have limited floor space or do not want houseplants within reach of animals or small kids, the answer lies in keeping your houseplants in wall planters. Think of it as living art. You can either opt for a planter that is attached to the wall like a holder or have a hanging planter extended from the roof or from a hook. You still get the magic of a houseplant without having to compromise on space.

If you want to add elements of different heights to elongate the room, houseplants are a great option. Whether you have a planter hanging from the ceiling or a houseplant in a regular planter on the floor, you can play around to see how you can use it to create an illusion of vertical space. A great idea is to take a creeper or a vine such as certain kinds of ivy and either let it hang in strings or overflow a tall planter on the floor, with the tendrils reaching towards the floor.

Having houseplants around isn’t only a great way to decorate your home, it’s also great for your physical health and state of mind. Whether you live in a small apartment or a large duplex, houseplants is a sure way to improve your home.
