6 Places to Get Fit in Ghana – Part 1

The Olympics has a way of bringing out the health conscious side of anyone. Watching others perform at the peak of physical fitness inspires even the most inactive of us to take better care of ourselves and get fit.

If you’ve been bitten by the fitness bug, while watching the 2016 Rio Olympics, and you aren’t sure where to start we’ve got you covered. Ghana is home to a wide variety of fitness centres, gyms and health clubs that promote an active lifestyle. We’ve rounded up a list of some of the well-known fitness venues and classes around Accra in this two-part post.

Burma Camp Leisure Centre
The Burma Camp Leisure Centre is the largest fitness centre in Accra, housing one of two Olympic swimming pools in town. This venue is a dream come true for anyone with Olympic aspirations as it features a gym, tennis, basketball and volley-ball courts as well as a soccer pitch. Need lessons? No problem the centre has swimming and tennis coaches at your disposal. It also offers early morning and evening aerobic classes.

Total Fitness Health Club
The Total Fitness Health Club was launched in 2011 by A&C Mall as an effort to help the community adopt a healthier lifestyle. The gym is located in East Legon and it features free weight, resistance and cardiovascular equipment, a studio hall where you can enjoy a range of aerobics classes that cater to everyone including the little ones and a modern 20X10 meter long modern swimming pool.

Fit Ghana

They offer private and group classes for a number of sporting and fitness activities including Zumba, Pilates, swimming, boxing, boot camp, yoga, reiki, pole dance, hip hop and African dance.
