Yankari National Park
Yankari is one of the most popular national parks in Nigeria, and for a good reason. This beautiful national park teems with a diversity of animals and plants. This park is home to Nigeria’s largest existing population of African bush elephants, as well as many baboons, hippo’s and a menagerie of birdlife. The park is famous for its warm springs, the Wikki Warm Springs, which are accessible to visitors. Visitors can also take expeditions into the caves of the area or take a tour of the park museum.
Okomu National Park
This rainforest Park offers visitors an oasis of peace and tranquillity, located just an hour’s drive from the city of Benin. Although Okomu is the smallest National park in Nigeria, it is worth a visit due to the numerous flora and fauna species which call it home. The park has two tree houses where one can observe the wildlife, and visitors can choose to enjoy guided walks.
Gashaka Gumti National Park
Unspoilt and remote, the largest national park in Nigeria is a haven for nature lovers. Gashaka Gumti National park is home to some of the worlds’ most endangered species, including the Colobus Monkey. The park is divided into regions of flat, savannah grassland and mountainous slopes and valleys. The park has been called one of Africa’s “Important Bird Areas” and more than 500 species of birdlife has been identified in the park.
Cross River national park
The Cross river national park is home to the critically endangered Cross River gorilla, a species which is predicted to have only 200- 300 left in the wild. Cross River is a sanctuary to many animals and is known as a biodiversity hotspot- the park has leopards, elephants, baboons and chimpanzees within its borders. Cross river national park has the densest rainforest in Nigeria, earning it the name “Africa’s rainforest”.
